Phillips-Medisize, a contract design and manufacturing supplier, has completed a 60,000-sq.-ft. expansion of its facility in Kontiolahti, Finland, and has begun production of drug delivery products. The expansion includes 13,000 sq. ft. of dedicated space to Class 8 cleanroom manufacturing and assembly operations. The company also added new high-speed automated lines and automated assembly and printing capabilities, as well as several semi-automated lines. Space has also been reserved for new molding and assembly equipment.
The Kontiolahti site is focused on the production of inhalers, insulin pens, transfer devices and syringes. The new automated lines will allow the company to increase production of multicomponent drug-delivery systems from the prototype stage to mass production. According to the company, the enhanced automation capabilities have the potential to achieve line outputs of 40 to 60 million devices a year.
The company previously expanded facilities in Wisconsin, the Czech Republic, and the Netherlands.
