Comments: Singulair sales were $1.1 billion in the quarter (-3%) and $4.3 billion for the year (+2%). Cozaar and Hyzaar sales were $881 million in the quarter (-1%) and $3.6 billion for the year (+6%). Fosamax and Fosamax Plus D sales were $318 million in the quarter (-60%) and $1.6 billion for the year (-49%), due to loss of marketing exclusivity. Gardasil sales were $286 million in the quarter (-16%) and $1.4 billion for the year (-5%). Januvia sales were $413 million in the quarter (+64%) and $1.4 billion for the year. Janumet sales were $120 million in the quarter compared to $44 million in 4Q07 and reached $351 million for the year. Isentress sales were $130 million for the quarter and $361 million for the year.
Combined global sales of Zetia and Vytorin, as reported by the Merck/Schering-Plough partnership, were $1.1 billion in the quarter (-26%) and $4.6 billion for the year (-12%). Restructuring costs were $33 million in the quarter and $123 million for the year. R&D expenses were flat at $1.4 billion in the quarter and $4.8 billion for the year (-2%). For the year, earnings include a $2.2 billion pretax gain on distribution from AstraZeneca. Results in 2007 reflect a $4.9 billion pretax charge related to the U.S. Vioxx Settlement Agreement.
