Billy Tauzin is resigning from his position as president of The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA). Mr. Tauzin had been working with the White House and Sen. Max Baucus (D-MT), chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, to limit the drug industry's total costs under President Barack Obama's proposed healthcare plan. The proposed deal has been deemed "controversial” and there is some speculation that Mr. Tauzin's resignation is the result of uncertainty surrounding the President’s healthcare plan. Mr. Tauzin was a member of the House of Representatives from 1980 to 2005, representing Louisiana’s 3rd Congressional district.
