Amgen has completion of the acquisition of KAI Pharmaceuticals based in South San Francisco. The acquisition includes KAI's lead product candidate KAI-4169, a novel drug being studied for the treatment of secondary hyperparathyroidism in patients with chronic kidney disease who are on dialysis. The drug has successfully completed a Phase II trial in this indication. 
 
Amgen paid $315 million for KAI in an acquisition announced in April 2012.
