Sanofi revealed plans that may result in the elimination of 900 jobs in France by 2015 as part of the company's planned restructuring of research operations. As part of the plan to streamline operations, development activities in Vitry/Alfortville, Chilly-Mazarin/Longjumeau and Lyon would continue with increased research activities, the Montpellier site would evolve toward a strategic center focused on development, the Strasbourg site would continue to serve as a collaborative platform open to academic research and biotechs, and a global center of excellence in infectious diseases would be created in Lyon.
Plans for the Toulouse site have not been disclosed. Sanofi has identified potential stakeholders to maintain the site’s scientific or technological capacity and continues to explore other options. Sanofi did not disclose any potential buyers for the site.
The company plans to implement these measures mainly through voluntary early retirement, mobility proposals and repositioning in France. Sanofi does not plan to relocate sites or change the number of industrial sites in France.
