SC facility to serve as global center of excellence

Capsugel has opened its new quality control lab in Greenwood, SC, doubling its lab capacity and investing more than $3 million. The new lab serves as a global resource to its network of manufacturing sites and R&D labs in Boston, Strasbourg and Colmar. The facility provides quality control and all raw materials and specialty testing of finished products.
The 9,600-sq.-ft. facility is equipped to provide a range of analytical and microbial testing, as well as development of color formulations. The company has expanded its global stability program with walk-in stability chambers and photo stability chambers to support the shelf life of the finished products, to register new products in different countries, and to conduct excursion studies to determine temperature and humidity conditions on the quality of the capsules.
“Our new Quality Control Laboratory positions Capsugel for future growth in an increasingly complex regulatory marketplace,” said Guido Driesen, president and chief executive officer of Capsugel. “Quality is the hallmark of our business and a core principle at Capsugel that provides added value to our customers. Our thorough testing equates to faster time to market as our products are designed to comply with today’s strict regulations.”
