Editor-in-Chief, Contract Pharma
Global contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) Recipharm, has invested in a new high speed filling line for pre-filled syringes and cartridges at its facility in Wasserburg, Germany responding to increased customer demand in these high growth fill formats. As part of a program of recent investments and expansions across the wider business, this investment will further enhance Recipharm’s comprehensive manufacturing offering for injectable products that require sterile filling. The leading sterile manufacturing facility specializes in more complex formats ranging from lyophilization technology and aseptic filling into vials, syringes and cartridges. The investment will expand Recipharm’s manufacturing footprint by adding a state-of-the-art, high-speed filling line for pre-filled syringes and cartridges. The line will be fully Annex 1 compliant and can support small volume projects as well as large. “The investment at our Wasserburg facility demonstrates Recipharm’s commitment to meet ongoing customer demand for sterile filling capabilities,” said Marc Funk, CEO, Recipharm. “The demand for pre-filled syringes is rapidly growing, with the projected market value by 2030 expecting to reach $6.5 billion.1 We are proud to be able to offer such a comprehensive service to our customers spanning device design, development and manufacturing to drug product fill & finish, and look forward to continuing to simplify the journey to market for our customers and of course helping patients access vital medicines.” The new line at Wasserburg is expected to be ready for technical trials by April 2023 with the first GMP batch run in May 2023 and is part of a wider growth plan which also sees the CDMO investing in new fill & finish facilities in France, Italy, India and Morocco.
