Roquette, a global provider of plant-based ingredients and pharmaceutical and nutraceutical excipients, launched its new coatings platform that brings together two ranges, Tabshield ready-to-use film coating systems and ReadiLYCOAT plant-based ready-to-use coating systems. The platform expands Roquette’s collection of versatile and sustainable coating products, each designed to address the needs of the pharmaceutical prescription, nutraceutical and over-the-counter (OTC) markets.

Roquette partnered with Kofitech, a specialist in film coating materials and owner of the Tabshield brand, to create the coatings platform deigned to offer manufacturers in pharmaceutical and nutraceutical markets superior performance through a range of ready-to-use coating premixes.

The new coatings platform features the Tabshield coating systems range and ReadiLYCOAT plant-based premix coating solutions. With flexible, high-performance film coatings for both immediate and enteric release, Tabshield harnesses industry standard base polymers (hydroxypropyl methylcellulose [HPMC], polyvinyl alcohol [PVA] and methacrylic acid) and titanium dioxide (TiO2) free formulations to deliver custom colors and finishes for any application.

The ReadiLYCOAT range leverages film coating and sugar-free sugar coating processes through its eco-friendly plant-based polymers. Relative to traditional coating methods, ReadiLYCOAT solutions are designed to be fast, simple and streamlined, to help reduce processing times.

“The global market for pharmaceutical and nutraceutical coatings is projected to reach €2.7 billion by 20271, driven by increasing demand for innovative patient-friendly dosage forms,” said Paul Smaltz, Head of the Pharmaceutical Solutions Business Unit at Roquette. “Our new coatings platform is designed to help drug and supplement producers seize these opportunities with effective and eco-conscious solutions that enhance user experience – whether that’s by masking bitter-tasting active ingredients, smoothing tablet surfaces for ease of swallowing, or providing surface color to help patients differentiate their medications.”
