Schreiner MediPharm & Bluesight Introduce RFID-Based Inventory Solution

Integrates Schreiner MediPharm’s Robust RFID-Labels with Bluesight’s KitCheck Scanning Stations to enable precise tracking of medications.

Schreiner MediPharm, a Germany-based provider of functional label solutions for the healthcare sector, has partnered with Bluesight, a U.S. leader in hospital pharmacy operations intelligence, to launch an RFID-based system for digital inventory control in hospital pharmacies. The solution integrates Schreiner MediPharm’s Robust RFID-Labels with Bluesight’s KitCheck Scanning Stations to enable precise tracking of medications, aiming to reduce errors and improve supply chain efficiency.

The RFID-Labels are designed for compatibility with KitCheck systems, which have tracked over 325 million units of injectable emergency and anesthetic drugs across 900 North American hospitals. These labels are built for high-speed pharmaceutical production, featuring a robust structure to protect the RFID chip from mechanical stress and ensure functionality on small-radius containers like vials and syringes. Additional features include integrated hangers, removable documentation labels, and tamper-evident seals.

The system allows KitCheck stations to read critical data such as batch numbers, expiration dates, and indicators of opened or expired drugs, with a digital first-opening feature to monitor container integrity at the unit level.

“Due to the utilization of RFID technology, drug inventories can be monitored in real time, which facilitates the work of hospital pharmacies and increases safety along the entire supply chain,” said Nick Petersen, VP Corporate Development at Bluesight.

“Standardized and reliable RFID labeling of pharmaceutical products improves workflow, helps reduce medication errors, and enhances patient safety,” added Sebastian Münscher, Senior Product Manager RFID/NFC Solutions at Schreiner MediPharm.

The collaboration addresses growing demands for automated medication management, offering hospitals a tool to streamline operations and enhance patient safety.
