Krohne Introduces New Radar FMCW Level Transmitters 

Krohne, a provider of industrial process instrumentation, has introduced new OPTIWAVE 1530 and OPTIWAVE 1560 radar FMCW level transmitters for solids and liquid applications, including small to tall silos, narrow tanks, stockpiles, bunkers, and vessels with internal obstructions. These devices deliver accurate, non-contact measurement of solids and liquids. 

The OPTIWAVE 1530 has a measuring range of 0–15 m (49.2 ft) and is designed for small to medium silos, stockpiles, bunkers, and tanks. The OPTIWAVE 1560 has a measuring range of up to 30 m (98.4 ft) and is designed for tall silos, large tanks, and deep vessels. Both models operate without recalibration over the product lifetime. 

Both models have a compact design with fully potted electronics that protect internal components from dust, condensation, vibration, and shocks. The flush-mounted, concave PVDF lens antenna is chemical resistant and has a self-draining design to prevent buildup. 

The transmitters have a 4° beam angle for use in tight spaces and vessels with internal obstructions, to avoid interference from walls or fixtures. They include a high dynamic range for measurement on dusty surfaces, foamy or agitated liquids, condensation, or poorly reflecting media. The devices have a minimal dead zone. 

Installation uses a 3″ threaded connection that fits standard flanges and accessories without protruding into nozzles. An optional IP68-rated version is available for conditions involving heavy rain, outdoor dusty environments, and flood-prone areas. 

Commissioning and operation use Bluetooth connectivity with the OPTICHECK Level Mobile app for remote setup. The app includes pre-configured application templates for guided setup and allows switching measurement parameters for different applications. HART communication with OPTICHECK D supports integration into control systems, and built-in OPTICHECK diagnostics monitor device health. 

On-site verification requires no process interruption and includes a status report for documentation. Algorithms, including Tank Bottom Management, filter false echoes for empty tank detection. Each device includes a 5 m/16.4 ft shielded cable, a 3-year warranty, and accessories such as brackets, flanges, and weather covers.
