Atossa Therapeutics, headquartered in Seattle, is welcoming two new medical directors to its staff. Kathy Puyana Theall, MD, is appointed Medical Director—Breast Oncology, and Adebola Giwa, MD, is now Medical Director—Rare Diseases.

What Atossa Develops

Atossa is a biopharmaceutical company that develops novel therapies in oncology and other rare diseases. Its lead product candidate, (Z)-Endoxifen, is currently in development in multiple clinical settings. The company intends for Theall and Giwa to strengthen Atossa’s execution of its development strategy in breast cancer and rare diseases.

Among the diseases in question are McCune-Albright syndrome and Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Atossa is advancing toward key clinical and regulatory milestones for (Z)-Endoxifen in some of these settings.

“These additions reflect our continued investment in building a world-class clinical organization,” said Atossa CEO Steven Quay, MD, PhD.

New Medical Directors Earn Praise

Quay touted the bona fides of both Theall and Giwa individually, as well as their expected collective impact.

“Kathy brings a proven track record in late-stage oncology development and regulatory approvals in breast cancer,” Quay said. “Adebola contributes deep expertise in endocrine and rare disease clinical development, with extensive experience advancing innovative therapies.”

Together, Quay said, the new medical directors—boasting nearly 40 years’ combined experience—“significantly enhance” Atossa’s program advancement abilities.

Theall comes most recently from Stemline-Menarini, where she was Vice President of Clinical Development—Breast Cancer. She also contributed to the clinical development of Ibrance (palbociclib) while at Pfizer.

Meanwhile, Giwa was Senior Medical Director at Maze Therapeutics prior to his appointment at Atossa. He is the founder of AdeBolus Medical Consulting, advising biopharmaceutical companies on their clinical and translational strategies.
