Shimadzu Scientific Instruments has introduced the Nexera X4 Ultra High-Performance Liquid Chromatograph (UHPLC), a next-generation system that builds on Shimadzu’s Nexera series.

With a low-dispersion design, Shimadzu claims the Nexera X4 UHPLC delivers “superior sensitivity, ultra-sharp peaks and outstanding separation performance.”

Additionally, Shimadzu says, “advanced fluid control technology maintains exceptional flow stability during high-speed, ultra-high-pressure analyses for consistently reliable results.” The system is designed for research and development applications in pharmaceuticals, food, environmental science and chemistry.

The Nexera X4 UHPLC emphasizes low system dispersion and stable solvent delivery for fast, high‑pressure separations. It uses a four‑drive binary pump with independently actuated plungers and pressure feedback control to support responsive gradients and consistent flow, and it incorporates a low‑dispersion flow path design (Nexflow) intended to reduce system‑derived peak broadening and preserve UHPLC column efficiency. The system is designed to work with narrow‑bore columns to support analytical miniaturization, including micro‑volume injection and accurate low‑flow delivery to help reduce solvent consumption. For LC–MS workflows, an optional Nexflow tubing kit is intended to minimize peak broadening between the column outlet and the MS interface, and the platform is positioned as a front end for high‑throughput LC‑MS/MS when paired with compatible Shimadzu triple quadrupole systems.
