Recipharm’s sixth International Environmental Award has been presented to Ludwig Metz, associate director of Environmental, Health & Safety, at Bristol–Myers Squibb. The award aims to encourage best practice and innovation to promote good examples and to encourage environmental dialog within the pharma industry.

Mr. Metz has been working in the field for the past 26 years for BMS. He began his international work in 1996 when he moved to the global acting corporate environment, health, safety and sustainability department. Mr. Metz has established a network of partners in Europe, including experts at universities, associations and rating companies, and supported the development of the sustainable goals and activities for various organizations.

Lars Backsell, chairman of Recipharm, said, “Ludwig Metz’s longstanding work is an excellent example of how sustainability activities and competence within a private business-focused organization can inspire and be shared and used throughout society. He has not only inspired his own company, but also universities, pharmacies and organizations to make positive changes to improve their ways of working with respect to sustainability. Through his ability to turn vision into reality, and through his support to industry stakeholders, he is a role model within the pharmaceutical industry.”
