DHL Global Forwarding has launched DHL Thermonet, a new air freight product, though its network of Life Sciences and Healthcare facilities, which offer a regulatory compliant platform for managing temperature-sensitive shipments of pharmaceutical products and medical devices.

“The global market for pharmaceuticals has reached a total volume of over $1 trillion in sales, with the U.S., Japan and China being the largest markets. The Life Sciences and Healthcare industry is a key sector for DHL and we are heavily investing in new products and services to provide comprehensive solutions to the needs of our customers,” said Roger Crook, chief executive officer of DHL Global Forwarding, Freight and executive board sponsor for the Life Sciences and Healthcare sector.

According to the company, DHL Thermonet provides higher visibility as a standard offering in the temperature controlled shipping arena by integrating proactive monitoring and intervention 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with its SmartSensor RFID technology. The SmartSensor monitors the ambient temperature of the shipment while in transit. As an optional service, near-product temperature of the goods during transport can be recorded using the SmartSensor XP technology, enabling more targeted intervention. The data collected by the SmartSensors uploads automatically to the LifeTrack IT platform via a web portal.
