H. Lundbeck A/S (Lundbeck) has promoted Markus Kede to Senior Vice President (SVP) and Chief AI Officer. Kede is currently SVP, Finance & Business Planning for Lundbeck US, and chairs the US Digital & AI Strategy Committee.
In that role, Kede has defined and advanced AI initiatives for Lundbeck, and accelerated enterprise adoption of AI and automation. As Chief AI Officer, the company says Kede will lead continued evolution and execution of its global AI strategy.
With a mandate to “ensure clear prioritization and measurable value creation,” Kede will be tasked with establishing responsible AI practices. He will also oversee building of focused AI capacities for Lundbeck, strengthening governance, and driving scalable AI deployment.
Kede’s 15-plus years of international leadership experience in highly regulated environments will be valuable, the company says. He has established strategic partnerships with entities such as OpenAI, Iambic Therapeutics, and the Danish Centre for AI Innovation.
Lundbeck says these efforts have already advanced research and early discovery of new drug candidates. Additionally, they have accelerated Lundbeck’s commercial execution by way of data-driven decision-making.
According to the company, this has also resulted in enhanced customer engagement and strengthened patient support. Altogether, Kede’s promotion is viewed by Lundbeck as an important step in its becoming a “bionic company.”
Kede will transition from his U.S.-based role and assume the SVP and Chief AI Officer posts effective July 1, 2026. On Lundbeck’s executive leadership team, he will report to President and CEO Charl van Zyl.
“Becoming a bionic company is one of our key strategic focus areas,” van Zyl said. “AI is not only about technology implementation. It is about transforming how we think, decide, and execute across our entire value chain. Markus brings the enterprise mindset and proven track record needed to embed AI into our business in a responsible and value-creating way.”
