Mabwell is signing an agreement with a strategic business partner for licensing and commercialization of denosumab biosimilar products in Malaysia.

What Are the Biosimilars?

The biosimilars, Mailishu and Maiweijian, reference the Amgen products Prolia and Xgeva, respectively. These drugs most commonly treat osteoporosis, particularly in post-menopausal women, or bone loss that occurs in patients following cancer treatment.

The partner in this collaboration was not identified by name in a news release from Mabwell. However, this partner will be responsible for registration and commercialization of the biosimilars in Malaysia. Mabwell retains responsibility for development, production, and commercial supply.

Mabwell in Malaysia and Beyond

This bolsters Mabwell within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), says Huiguo Hu, Senior Vice President and Board Secretary. ASEAN includes Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam.

Hu feels the collaboration will bring “high-quality, affordable treatment options to more patients in the region.”

“We are delighted to see that we have reached a collaboration on denosumab in another ASEAN country,” Hu said. “Malaysia has an internationally aligned regulatory environment, strong regional recognition, and significant space for development. This collaboration will further deepen Mabwell’s presence in the ASEAN market. We look forward to rapidly advancing the product’s local registration and commercialization with our partner’s strong commercial capabilities.”

Denosumab Joins Other Therapies in Portfolio

With its population of nearly 36 million, Malaysia’s market size was an estimated US$3.4 billion in 2025. Mabwell sees big market potential with these numbers, which include a compound annual growth rate of approximately 6%.

Mabwell focuses primarily on oncology and aging-related diseases in its mission to deliver effective, accessible therapies to meet global needs.
