New PHCbi Cell-IQ systems target humidity control, contamination prevention and lab uptime as cell-based research grows more complex.

PHC Corporation of North America (PHCNA) is rolling out a new line of PHCbi Cell-IQ CO₂ incubators designed to give cell-culture laboratories tighter control over humidity, contamination risk and operating downtime.
The Cell-IQ CO₂ Incubator Series uses active hybrid humidification technology that combines active steam generation, an internal humidity sensor and a passive water pan system to maintain humidity at 80% to 90%. After chamber doors are opened, the system detects humidity declines and begins humidification immediately, enabling humidity recovery at roughly twice the speed of prior models.
The technology is designed to reduce evaporation in multi-well plates, limit edge effect and curb condensation when heat-generating analytical instruments are used inside the chamber. Those issues are closely watched in advanced cell-culture applications, where small changes in culture conditions can affect experimental consistency.
The incubators also include antimicrobial copper-alloy stainless-steel interiors, UV-LED sterilization and hydrogen peroxide decontamination technology. The decontamination cycle can be completed in about three hours, a feature intended to help laboratories reduce downtime while maintaining sterile conditions.
“This new generation of PHCbi incubators represents a significant step forward in active humidity control, helping deliver the stability and precision that researchers need to generate consistent, high-quality data,” said Joe LaPorte, Chief Innovation Officer at PHCNA. “By addressing long-standing challenges with humidity management and contamination prevention, we’re helping laboratories improve confidence in their results while supporting the future of cell-based research.”
The launch comes as pharmaceutical and life-sciences laboratories increasingly rely on complex cell-based systems, including organoids, cell-line development, high-throughput screening and live-cell imaging. Stable incubation conditions are a key requirement for longer-duration studies and workflows involving frequent access to culture chambers.
The new series also features an updated graphical user interface, LabSVIFT Gen 3 connectivity for remote monitoring and diagnostics, an integrated humidity sensor and a field-reversible ergonomic door handle. The additions are intended to simplify operation, improve performance visibility and reduce maintenance demands.
