Quintiles has opened an office in Nairobi, Kenya, expanding its capacity to provide clinical research services in Africa. A team of locally-based clinical professionals will monitor trials throughout East Africa.

Quintiles established offices in South Africa currently focus on endemic diseases such as malaria, TB and HIV. Future possibilities for additional areas of research in the region include heart disease, diabetes and cancer.

Gillian Corken, chief executive officer of Quintiles Africa, commented, “Like other non-traditional regions before it, Africa will become an important geography for us to reach large populations of patients for a range of therapy areas including oncology and cardiovascular. Our experience in Ghana has enabled us to effectively scale across the continent using the same procedures among the local talent and expertise.”
