Jean-Pierre Lehner, M.D., has been appointed senior vice president, chief medical officer, Sanofi-Aventis. Dr. Lehner reports to Marc Cluzel, senior vice president, R&D.

Jean-Pierre Lehner, M.D., has been appointed senior vice president, chief medical officer, Sanofi-Aventis. Dr. Lehner reports to Marc Cluzel, senior vice president, R&D. His new position combines all of the functions related to patient safety to enhance the clarity of purpose and accountability within the company. Pharmacovigilance and Regulatory Affairs will report to Dr. Lehner.

Most recently, Dr. Lehner served as senior vice president, medical and regulatory affairs since 2005. Prior to that he held positions with the company as vice president medical affairs Europe, scientific senior director of Sanofi Winthrop, and senior director of clinical investigations, Sanofi Research. 

Also, Laurence Debroux has been appointed to the newly created position of senior vice president, chief strategic officer. Ms. Debroux will be responsible for all of the group’s business development and acquisition activities as well as corporate planning, financial and economic evaluation of internal and external projects, and strategic intelligence. She will report to Chris Viehbacher, SA’s chief executive officer.

Ms. Debroux previously served as senior vice president, chief financial officer. She will keep this position to ensure an orderly transition pending the appointment of a new chief financial office. She joined the Sanofi Group as corporate treasurer in 1996, and was appointed head of financing/treasury in 1997. From 2000 to 2004, she served as head of strategic planning, before becoming deputy chief financial officer. In 2007 she was appointed senior vice president, chief financial officer and became a member of the executive committee in December 2008.
