The freezing and thawing platform is designed for maximizing process consistency and product quality for high-value biologics.

Editor’s Take: CDMOs and biopharmaceutical manufacturers will be able to strengthen the protection of their products.
Single Use Support, of Kufstein, Austria, is launching RoSS.BLST, a next-generation freezing and thawing platform engineered for high-value biologics.
The company says in terms of freeze-thaw performance, the controlled-rate blast freezer delivers maximum process consistency and product quality. System upgrades allow CDMOs and other biopharmaceutical manufacturers to strengthen product protection, improve reproducibility, and enhance overall efficiency of operations.
Single Use Support says the platform features a more efficient direct cooling system, plus a Siemens control system. This marriage enables pull-down to target temperature—down to -80°C. Its stainless steel, hygienic design lends itself to simple cleaning and maintenance.
Additionally, overall runtime is shortened, plus energy demand is lower. A rapid, uniform temperature distribution ultimately means faster heat transfer, resulting in more powerful, consistent freezing profiles.
These are all important functions, the company says, with cold chain management remaining one of bioprocessing’s most critical steps. Inefficient, or non-uniform, freezing can compromise drug substance integrity.
Markus Fürhapter, Single Use Support Chief Technical Officer, said enhanced performance, increased capacity, and recipe-driven freezing controls are all advantages.
“With our next-gen RoSS.BLST, we’re transforming the freezing of bulk-packaged drug substances into an efficient, reproducible, scalable process,” Fürhapter said. “Fully controlled freeze-thaw cycles translate into consistent process reliability, without added complexity.”
RoSS.BLST also engenders space efficiency within existing bioprocessing facilities. Single Use Support says the platform boasts a best in class ratio of usable chamber volume to footprint. The modular interior accommodates a range of bioprocess container types and batch configurations.
Compared to other blast freezers, RoSS.BLST improves usable chamber capacity by 30%.
The platform is part of Single Use Support’s end to end cold chain ecosystem, and as such is compatible with other company offerings.
