Q: What is an IoR?

A: The Importer of Record (IoR) is the customs term for the entity responsible for ensuring the imported goods comply with local laws and regulations, filing a complete duty entry and associated documents and paying the assessed import duties and other taxes on those goods. The ability to act as Importer of Record can vary from country to country. In most instances a third party company can act as an Importer of Record. However, sometimes it is only the Sponsor that can act as an Importer of Record.
