Schreiner MediPharm to Present Cap-Lock Plus RFID at CPHI Frankfurt

Enhances product and patient safety while adding digitalization-centric security and efficiencies in supply chain and inventory settings.

Schreiner MediPharm, a Germany-based company specializing in functional label solutions for the healthcare sector, will present a new syringe security product featuring integrated RFID technology at CPHI Frankfurt, taking place October 28–30. The product, Cap-Lock plus RFID, will be showcased in conjunction with SCHOTT Pharma’s SCHOTT TOPPAC infuse COC syringes.

Cap-Lock plus RFID is based on Schreiner MediPharm’s existing Cap-Lock Label. It includes a cap with the same diameter as the syringe barrel, allowing the label to wrap around both components. The label incorporates a tamper-evident feature that activates upon first opening, designed to maintain the integrity of prefilled syringes until use. This design may reduce the need for additional protective packaging, potentially lowering material usage and associated emissions.

The integrated RFID functionality provides a digital first-opening indication in addition to the physical tamper evidence. In clinical settings, this feature can support automated tracking of syringe integrity and usage. It also enables unit-level identification, which may assist with supply chain monitoring and inventory management. The system is designed to detect expired medications, track unused syringes, and monitor for potential diversion or misuse.

The RFID chip is embedded in a label structure intended to withstand mechanical stress and maintain functionality during high-speed pharmaceutical manufacturing processes. This design aims to ensure consistent chip readability and performance from production through to end use.
