Jerome Pionchon, a mechanical engineering expert at MilliporeSigma, spoke with Contract Pharma at Interphex 2018 about one of their sites in the south of France that experienced a major production expansion and technology conversion.

Pionchon says that in 2010, the facility was first developed for process development and the clinical manufacturing of internal projects. However, with growing demand in the biologics CDMO market, the company elected to expand capacity at its existing cGMP biomanufacturing facility in Martillac, France. In addition, the decision was also made to convert from previously-installed fixed/stainless steel equipment to single-use technologies wherever feasible.
