Editor’s Take: Joining deep knowledge of China’s life science ecosystem with global commercial infrastructure will benefit patients worldwide.

OTR Therapeutics has a new strategic collaboration agreement with LG Chem aimed at accelerating development of novel oncology therapies. The strategic alliance unifies efforts to identify, evaluate, and eventually develop novel assets from China.

This starting point is logical due to OTR’s proprietary R&D platform and deep connection with China’s life science ecosystem. Combined with LG Chem’s global development expertise and commercial infrastructure, the partnership will funnel innovative discoveries to patients worldwide.

Oncology Breakthroughs Through Innovation

Innovation is the key, the companies say, to transforming the science into globally competitive medicines while creating a sustainable pipeline. In that way, OTR and LG Chem can offer differentiated oncology therapies to patients with significant unmet needs.

The strategic framework operates thusly: OTR will identify and conduct initial technical assessment of promising oncology programs. Any of these would align with the strategic priorities of LG Chem’s regional scientific network and business development capabilities.

Following that, OTR leads preclinical and early clinical development in China. LG Chem, subsequently, leads ex-China clinical development, regulatory strategy, and commercialization.

LG Chem, OTR Leaders Speak

“This collaboration strengthens our ability to systematically identify and evaluate promising assets,” LG Chem President Son Ji-woong, MD, PhD, said. “We aim to enhance our global competitiveness and improve patient access to innovative treatments.”

“We’re very delighted to collaborate to unlock the immense innovation potential,” OTR Founder and CEO Zhui Chen, PhD, said. “We are creating an accelerated pathway to transform early-stage breakthroughs into highly differentiated, clinically impactful therapies for patients worldwide.”

Financially, OTR is receiving upfront payments, also entitled to global development and regulatory milestone awards. OTR also may participate in global development, obtaining shares of global rights to programs entering late stages of the clinic.
