Editor’s Take: With treatment options evolving, the therapy provided by these tablets offers a rapid and sustained acid suppression profile.

Bora Pharmaceuticals and Onconic Therapeutics agreed to support United States clinical development of Onconic’s Jaqbo potassium-competitive acid blocker (P-CAB) tablets.

What the Treatment Involves

The tablets are a treatment for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), which affects approximately 20% of the U.S. population. P-CAB therapies are gaining traction, as GERD therapies evolve, for their rapid, sustained acid suppression profile.

Jaqbo gained approval in Onconic’s home territory of Korea in 2024, and since then has shown strong prescription growth there. Conversely, this new agreement covers Bora’s latest oral solid dose facility, in Maple Grove, Minn. There, Bora will provide quality control, stability testing, and preparation of chemistry, manufacturing, and controls documentation for a U.S. trial.

Bora and Onconic Respond

Bobby Sheng, Chairman of Bora Group and CEO of Bora, commented on the manufacturing agreement.

“For companies preparing for U.S. clinical development and commercialization, the right manufacturing partner can make a meaningful difference,” Sheng said. “We are proud to support Onconic as it prepares Jaqbo for planned U.S. clinical development. This collaboration reflects Bora’s commitment to helping innovative companies move with confidence into highly regulated markets.”

“This collaboration … is an important preparatory step in establishing [Jaqbo’s] manufacturing, quality, and stability data package,” an Onconic rep said. “Based on our prescription growth in Korea and overseas commercialization achievements, we will proceed with U.S. development preparation without delay.”

Both Bora and Onconic intend to continue growing their development and commercialization partnerships globally, within and outside of this partnership.
