Estonia-based biotechnology company Icosagen has completed a €45 million ($51.3 million) strategic expansion to strengthen its integrated biologics development and manufacturing capabilities with a new site, creating a seamless pathway from early discovery through GMP manufacturing for clinical supply of complex protein therapeutics.

The program includes the establishment of a new single-use GMP manufacturing facility operating in accordance with European GMP regulatory requirements, and enables Icosagen to support biotechnology and biopharmaceutical companies globally across discovery, developability assessment, CMC development and Phase I/II GMP manufacturing within one integrated organization and at a single site.

“The completion of this investment program represents an important strategic milestone for Icosagen,” explains Mart Ustav, Founder and CEO of Icosagen. “It strengthens our ability to connect early therapeutic protein development with CMC and GMP manufacturing in one integrated pathway, with fewer handovers and a deeper understanding of each molecule from the start.”

By integrating early developability and manufacturability considerations before starting formal CMC development, Icosagen identifies and reduces technical risks earlier, shortens its clients’ development timelines, and helps avoid costly late-stage manufacturing challenges.

“We help clients develop non-standard antibody and protein modalities without losing the original biological intent of the molecule,” Ustav adds. “For complex candidates, the goal is not to force every molecule into a conventional template, but to build a development and manufacturing strategy that fits the biology.”
