Immunic, Inc. (Immunic Therapeutics), a late-stage biotechnology company, announced the appointment of Erik Lundgren as Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Lundgren’s appointment was official as of Friday, May 22, 2026, but he begins employment Monday, June 1.

Lundgren was introduced as a “distinguished biopharmaceutical executive” who will lead Immunic in developing novel oral therapies for neurologic diseases.

Immunic’s Recent Activities

Currently, the company is focusing on advancing vidofludimus calcium through late-stage clinical development. This includes two Phase III programs: one in relapsing multiple sclerosis (MS), and a planned one in primary progressive MS.

Immunic is also preparing vidofludimus calcium for potential new drug application (NDA) filing, regulatory approval, and eventual commercialization.

“I am truly honored to be joining Immunic at such an exciting and pivotal moment,” Lundgren said. “The treatment landscape for MS has advanced meaningfully, broadening what is possible for people living with this complex disease. Yet a large unmet need remains, particularly for treatment options with potential to slow disability progression and preserve neurological function. Vidofludimus calcium’s potential to treat MS by targeting both immunological and neuroprotective pathways … offers a differentiated approach.”

New CEO’s Experience

Prior to his appointment at Immunic, Lundgren was Senior Vice President, Commercial Portfolio Organization at Genentech, of the Roche Group. He previously served as General Manager of Roche Czech Republic, and Lifecycle Leader for Huntingdon’s disease in Roche’s neuroscience portfolio.

Over a decade at Genentech, Lundgren held roles of increasing responsibility, including Senior Marketing Director. Here, he supported commercialization and launch of Ocrevus (ocrelizumab), a foundational treatment for relapsing and primary progressive MS.

As Immunic CEO, Lundgren succeeds Daniel Vitt, PhD. Vitt will remain on Immunic’s Board of Directors and retain responsibility for scientific strategy and portfolio advancement.
