Editor’s Take: A new facility at Niowave’s U.S. headquarters in Michigan continues a 2025 trend of domestic investments.

Niowave, which develops superconducting electron linear accelerators and advances radiochemistry procedures, broke ground on a production facility in Lansing, Michigan. At a cost of $75 million, the facility significantly expands Niowave’s manufacturing footprint and strengthens domestic supply of Actinium-225 (Ac-225).

This powerful, alpha-emitting isotope is critical to next-generation targeted cancer therapies. It precisely destroys cancer cells, while minimizing impact on healthy tissue.

Doubling Down in Michigan

The new site is Niowave’s second dedicated production facility in Lansing, where the company is headquartered. It substantially increases capacity for supporting a growing global demand for Ac-225, as well as other pharmaceutically essential medical isotopes.

In fact, Niowave has announced two major supply agreements in the last four months as biopharmaceutical companies show continued interest.

Overall, approximately 70 highly skilled jobs are to be added by the investment in the new facility. The site’s expected features include superconducting linear accelerators, as well as state-of-the-art processing and quality systems.

According to Niowave, this will enable scalable and reliable production of Ac-225.

Niowave Lays Out Completion Timeline

“This expansion reflects our continued commitment to advancing the future of targeted alpha therapy,” said Niowave CEO Mike Zamaira. “Actinium-225 has the potential to transform cancer treatment. This new facility significantly strengthens our ability to deliver this critical isotope so therapies can reach patients who need them.”

Construction is being led by The Christman Company in collaboration with Colliers Engineering & Design. Niowave expects the site to be operational by 2028.
