Covance's central lab in Shanghai has achieved accreditation by the College of American Pathologists (CAP). The CAP accreditation program is an internationally recognized program that's designed to help labs achieve the highest standards of excellence to positively impact patient care by advancing the quality of pathology and lab services through education, standard setting, and ensuring labs meet or exceed regulatory requirements.
Covance's Shanghai central lab is the company's fourth lab to achieve CAP accreditation and Level-1 NGSP (National Glycohemoglobin Standardization Program) certification, a standard requirement for drug development hemoglobin testing.
"Covance is committed to meeting our clients' need for high quality laboratory data in all regions of the world," said Deborah Tanner, Covance's corporate senior vice president and president of central laboratory services. "With the combination of our broad, expanded portfolio of laboratory testing capabilities and CAP accreditation in China, Covance continues to provide the industry's most comprehensive and flexible clinical trial laboratory service solutions to the growing numbers of sponsors conducting clinical studies in the Asia Pacific region, and throughout the world."
ICON's Central Labs in Singapore and Bangalore, India, also recently received CAP accreditation. The Bangalore facility passed the accreditation process within four months of opening. ICON now has a global network of CAP accredited laboratories in Farmingdale, NY, Dublin, Ireland, Singapore and Bangalore.
“CAP is the gold standard by which all laboratories are measured and this is a great achievement,” commented Bob Scott-Edwards, President of ICON Central Laboratories. “The speed at which we received CAP accreditation, in particular for our Bangalore facility, is testament to our stringent quality standards, our state of the art laboratory facilities and the expertise of our global team. We are committed to maintaining excellence in laboratory services through the provision of extensive testing and sample management services in key regions for global clinical studies.”
