Vetter is implementing a serialization solution for its product packaging to support anti-counterfeiting measures, as well as expanded regulatory requirements for manufacturers to have clear identification of drugs on packaging. Vetter’s IT-solution will incorporate a range of serialization services as a basis for track-and-trace programs by the end of the year.
Expanded services include printing of Global Trade Item Numbers (GTIN) on packages, which has been requested by France and will potentially be requested by the U.S. in 2015. Vetter also began implementing an engineering platform for serialization that is expected to be operational by the end of 2014. This service is designed to support pharma and biopharma companies in implementing their own track-and-trace programs.
“The Vetter serialization service will support growing customer and regulatory demands in the area of track-and-trace in the struggle against counterfeiting," said Thomas Otto, Managing Director. “This service, which we expect to have implemented by late 2014, is based upon a comprehensive concept study that we undertook. Our serialization service will enable that packages include unique identification necessary to support product security and supply chain efficiency."
